Atheists Christmas holidays, this unknown

Elena Scaltriti

"Maybe it's too late for intellectual debate, But A residue of confusion remains." So begins Greg Graffin in "Atheist Peace", one of the most famous songs of Bad Religion, American band playing punk rock with a good three decades (highly recommended). Although the title may mislead, the lyrics make perfect aura of mystery mixed with fear that surrounds the figure of the atheist, especially in Italy.

eat children? Are libertines? They raised the anchors from the safe haven of morality to route to a future even more dissolute and no reference points? These are just some of the questions that circulate around the atheists, who do not do much to clarify the situation in the eyes of the average believer, convinced that it is now easier to win the lottery than to find an atheist in the flesh in the workplace. In fact, what remains unknown to most people is that atheists are not an endangered species on Italian soil. According to data reported by the EU (Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics), we have gone from 5.2% in 1987 to 18% in 2003 over the entire population and the phenomenon shows no signs of stopping. We are therefore fully entitled to ask what are the characteristics and motivations of the young Italian atheist.

cross and delight of the beautiful country, the family plays a leading role in the process of religious socialization in childhood. It is a sort of "law of inertia" which leads the religious orientation of the family home to self-reproduce in subsequent generations. It is easy to understand, then, as young atheists are born and grow normally in families in which at least one of the parents stood on the positions of atheism and so is the reasonable connection with situations marked by separation, divorce and civil marriages. In addition, sociological research conducted by university professors Catholic University of Milan found that atheists are mostly found in North-West and Central and tend to have higher qualifications, especially among the respondents as among their parents. To these are added a greater involvement in associations and parties, with un'estremizzata political self-placement on the left and the spread of a more extensive policy, perceived not only as a "safeguard its interests, but also as a" duty of every citizen. "

Yet something does not. 18% of 60 million inhabitants, equivalent to nearly 10 million Italians. Anyone who turn up their nose in front of these figures: where are all the atheists? Would form a more than large army within the nation that hosts the headquarters of the Catholic Church and have the numbers to assert their positions. Instead hiding (which are locked in the dungeons of the Vatican?). Are lost in the "Atheist Peace" mentioned by Graffin and convincing, with resignation, that is not worth to make their voices heard, animated dall'italianissimo "so it would not change anything." The atheist hard to play cards and when he finds the courage to do it, divided into those eyes full of pity and those in which the seed of suspicion quivers. Speaking of "omerta atheism" in Italy, a knowing and not knowing at the same time, an "I know you're an atheist, but do not worry: I will not tell anyone. "

also to fight this torpor, did the Union of Rationalist Atheists and Agnostics (UAAR), the only national association for the purpose of representing the citizens of atheists and agnostics Italians. Several personalities have acceded to by Margherita Hack Danilo Mainardi, Piergiorgio Odifreddi to various initiatives and as organized as the campaign bus "atheist", the project to forward an alternative to religion in schools and the sbattezzo.

Speaking from an atheist who attends a Catholic-in space-time paradox which I have driven, great Scott! - I can not do only hope that atheists Italians wake up from sleep in which they are sealed and realize that there is nothing worse than being ashamed of their positions and hide his head under a blanket of indifference and resignation.

Yet It Moves?

Filip Stefanovic

Anyone who has ever occupied the least known of economics, game theory, specifically the concept of resolution defined Nash equilibrium, the famous mathematician John Nash, one of Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind , so to speak. According to this model, the various players are fully informed the different strategies that participants may adopt, and the resulting profile is such that no player can take advantage of changing the strategy in place, provided that other competitors do not change theirs.

reflecting the other day, quite disengaged, with respect to the Italian political system, and I thought about how they were fifteen years later - the accuracy was 10 May 1994 - from the first settlement of Silvio Berlusconi at Palazzo Chigi. Perhaps to make this better, I would recall that on that date to the presidency of the United States Bill Clinton sat in France François Mitterrand, Helmut Kohl in Germany, still in office at the first government in the wake of German reunification, Russia Boris Yeltsin ... In other words, names that in the popular imagination, for the time of the policy, belong to the past. In an article a few days ago, Gianmario Pisanu remembered only as the Second Republic have already ten successive governments, while the current creaky enough to take the ministers awake at night. At the same time it is important to remember that apart from a few known, the recycling of names, is of the highest offices that was enough to cause very few surprises and renovations, I will not say from one government to another (left or right was), but also from a republic to another. Thus, apart from the paralysis of policy dictated from its endemic weaknesses, there is very little gap, always a sign of deep-seated changes, with the passing of governments and legislatures. It seems that Italy, or rather the forces of social, political and economic inside, they found a balance point - more or less successful - which have no reason to move. As time goes by, the historical problems of the peninsula appear ever more chronic, corruption, justice, the collusion between state and mafia, parasitic, nepotism, all'autoreferenzialità the political class. The deadlock in which it is beached Italy is like a cancer grows, and gradually affects healthy cells that surround it. The result is apathy, distrust and the total discouragement of citizens who are well aware that pulls the air with the scent and honed by centuries of servitude, they do nothing because this situation better, but try to turn in their small , to derive some benefit from inefficient general for not paying taxes, or even a bus ticket. Because the ruling class is the first to (not) do this, you do not understand why the individual citizen, who may not earn a living as an escape in some years, should make efforts to respect so much like a chicken all the heavy tax is imposed, increasing only the entropy and a sense of unreliability of the whole.

is certainly true that the politician should be, first and independently, to lead by example and focus on transparency in education, for years now but found that it does not, this fault loses value for the single excuse. If each of us, in its small and without any immediate benefit, he worked in the making, if not good, better, could change anything? Could, perhaps, other players understand that the choices are changing, and that his strategy is no longer the winner, but another, perhaps more beneficial to the entire community? It might even be the twilight of a political class, clearly inadequate to meet the needs of a more pretentious of us? Today more than ever relies on words like freedom and democracy, more to bridge the chasm of distrust in political tool for a real concept of conscience. The result is only an outspoken individualism, with the most serious consequence of hiding any future project, a long-term vision, a goal for which we strive for the country's system. But without a precise route, until the ship can stay at sea? And, when you will have to dock, we are sure you will be near a port in which repair?

so discouraged, I am then read Serbian newspapers, the more serious stagnation of my hometown, which is basically what I say Italy is not putting so bad, and, with a shot of optimism, which also claims that each poses to the state in whose lives are proportional to the development achieved, as what we, here, can seem serious, it really is not as bad as it looks. Yet I do not think that the Italian should be the benchmark Serbia, rather than Germany, France or United Kingdom. Well, perhaps my annotations, for the next time I'll have to emigrate.

no taxation without representation

Diego Zunino

had just spent my first day of University as a student of third year, the City pretentious Euro-agglomeration of cars more or less returned to the decency of at least thirty years-to Nice was about leaving the Central Station of Milan.

Old compartments, seats dusty sovraffollatissima (somewhat pretentious) class that exploited some drops in the summer. It was in this environment exquisitely naive that I began to rethink a different perspective to the electoral law.

The elegant middle-aged lady in front of me asks cordially signs for the Cinque Terre, such connections and other amenities like; his Hispanic accent, I realize that is foreign: Uruguay to be precise, I tells all about his life since he left Italy at the time of Montevideo, the brother he never wanted to know nothing of his native country to a tragicomic report on the deaths of influenza A in his village of 700 souls.

Among the many rumors to kill an unpleasant time to time impressed me something that I said almost ironic air "in Italy I get warnings that I must go to vote, but I know nothing of your country, neither party nor the people. I never went to vote, nor my brother, it appears, have also made the Honorary Consul. What we want to do, I do not even seem right: I pay my taxes from you mica because I can vote? ".

Well, I was reminded of the American colonists protest: no taxation without representation . Those who have dual citizenship in Italy and maybe there never was, because he has to vote?
In my opinion, the vote of "Italians abroad" sounds like the desire to imitate those who have sadly still remaining colonies (eg the overseas territories in France) that are part of the nation, but perhaps evoking the times remaining migrants that were.

The law proposal was today instead of allowing the vote in municipal elections Financo immigrant non-EU nationals and residents for more than five years, also citing the Courier: makes it possible for immigrants to be elected as directors and to be part of the junta with the exception of office of the deputy mayor and, of course (?) , mayor.

The bill is also obviously good for Calderoli, "an attack on democracy", while 's (ex) partner Cicchitto "unacceptable [...] without the chairmanship of the group has been requested [...] without falls in the commitments of government. "

I learned today a memorable lesson in constitutional law, in Italy:

· immigrants living in Italy for five years or more regularly threaten democracy if paying direct taxes (Work done) and indirect (VAT), with children who speak Italian better than many Italians because they have studied in our schools where there have paid the tuition can take courage to choose a city councilman, rather than rate remaining victim of choices affecting them perhaps as socially weaker classes.
· Our compatriots who speak English or American accent, they pay no taxes-and certainly, remittances are no longer those of a time-but may choose twelve deputies and six senators. ( http://bit.ly/8aVjOh )
· The MPs have the mandate prohibition against those who elected them but not to those who appointed, or has been appointed with them but better.

suggest the many immigrants have been harmed by those who accuse them, them, attack on democracy that in case of their inclusion in a civic list, instead of calling it with the usual names of good citizenship is a charming fregino "Albissola (or common concerned) Tea Party. "

Graboid Difference Between Onyx And Pearl

Words, words, words, mere words, no words to say .... Wasting time

Have you noticed how often you miss the opportunity to keep quiet? Well for me it is a constant in life and always lose the opportunity to shut up, to avoid saying something .... I think the words and throw them and are often aware that certain words, certain beats, certain attitudes can be misconstrued ... and then I will eat your hands for what I said because for me there were words spoken with malice, or that I thought seriously ... words that were thrown out of my small calf's head and eat my hands for one simple reason ... because deep down I knew while I said that these words could be misinterpreted and I have not stopped in to say: (

The Morning After Pill Pmt

Berlusconi and euthanasia of a government

Gianmario Pisanu

How often likes to say the Minister Tremonti, the word crisis (krisis from greek, "distinctive character", "separation" and then "choice", the "Decision") involves both a negative moment , intended as pure as opposed to reality pre-existing, and secondly a proposal phase, when a new order overlooking the still smoldering rubble of the status quo just shot down. According to recently leaked
environments close to the center-right Prime Minister, Berlusconi is in this spirit that, troubled by the long-standing legal proceedings relating to him and saddened by the allegations made against him by Caesarism co-founder of the PDL Fini, would be pondering a return Early turnout. The list of detractors accused of conspiracy is quite long: by the courts to rifondaroli disobedient vassals who long for his scepter (Fini and many Democrats), the shaft gang "Republican" to President Napolitano (guilty of failing to keep what could not promise), without neglecting the former concubine stone of the scandal, Veronica Lario, and merciless foreign newspapers which often hilarious caricatures they portray (and why not, even the eternal CIA, especially since Obama, a Democrat, is the White House). All remerebbero in adverse direction, all will ship it straight to Helena without going through the island, if only they could. Convinced, therefore, have against the so-called "great powers" (a term misused and smoky, the cornerstone of the conspiracy cheap), the possibility of a mass popular legitimacy appears as the only bank in a slow and inexorable decline. A New Covenant with the Italians after the flood election, which would sweep away opponents and slander, is looming on the horizon of the Italian political scene, especially if the face and the competitive instinct will prevail over the entrepreneur advice of swamps strategists realized, first read, watching the elections with fearful caution.
would then once again confirmed the endemic instability of our government, a prerogative that accompanies us from the time the Unit and that characterizes us, alas, in the eyes of the world along with pizza, mafia and "O 'sole mio ".
If it is true, as De Gasperi used to say that a politician looks to next election as a statesman for the next generation, our leaders do not shine for some foresight and, once metabolized the eventual defeat at the polls, promising his followers, thirsty for revenge and faithful to its origins Guelph / Ghibellines, to use every means to shorten the grueling five-year term expires. So that, nell'infuocata spring of 2006, while still not faded from the echoes of the controversy over the outcome of a tight, Berlusconi announced loudly the imminent end of the Prodi government (which would fall from there twice a year and half), also after the beating suffered in 2008, Veltroni arrembante prophesied that "the government would not be lasted five years, "despite the overwhelming parliamentary majority achieved by the deployment against. In doing so, in an atmosphere of total distrust and discredit each other in the mechanisms of alternation of a normal parliamentary democracy, Italy has come to hold the unenviable record of 60 (sessanta!) government in 43 years, from 1946 to today compared with 17 U.S. and 11 French (the latter with only 8 different presidencies). However, there is a substantial element of novelty in the crisis that meanders through the ranks of the government.
insulted At the time of the First Republic, when the majorities were formed after complex negotiations parliamentary unaware of the spotlight public opinion, political parties drew legitimacy almost entirely by the Parliament (the popular vote sanctioned only the relations of power between the sides). Consequently, the government crisis, mainly caused by the building plots, floral clusters (think of the governments "beach", so called because they could not stand the rigors autumn), enhancing the image of self that a world (the Policy) huddled in his ivory tower gave him. With the collapse of mass parties, and ideologies in general, after the end of the Cold War, the system proved to be suddenly outdated and unfair to the citizens, who claimed higher final say in choosing their representatives. It was then, in the grip of chaos and Jacobean populist fury unleashed by Tangentopoli, Italy lost a historic opportunity to modernize. The revolutionary wave that swept the country bore the proverbial rat, this time in the guise of a mysterious Second Republic, so named for the five aping the French Republic (yes those generated by radical changes, for better or for worse).
The results are clear: in 15 years, as many as 10 different governments (Berlusconi I, II, III and IV, I and II Prodi, D'Alema I and II, Dini Amato II), twice the U.S. and three times those of France completed in the same period. Only the anomaly Berlusconi and his extraordinary financial and media power have mitigated, at least in part, the exasperated futility of Government (with assets of two crises in 1994 and 2005, numerous reshuffles and adjustments in the running). But then, just when the political context seemed to have stabilized following the 2008 elections, which have crippled the extreme and given a strong mandate and unambiguously to the center-right coalition, a "crisis of abundance", in some ways mirror those Members, undermines the strength of the government. Paradoxically, the broad consensus in the country picked up along the way has proved a boomerang for President Council, to be sure of popular support, has spent up to the frenzy to consolidate the image of father of the country, "President of all" (think of the ostentatious paternalism in the earthquake of the Eagle, so as not to find dramatic evidence in recent experience), confident of being able thereby ensure long life to his execution.
But Italy is not a state nor a presidential-style democracy plebiscite. E'retta from one system to base its legitimacy from parliamentary electoral vote, Janus struggling to danger in any category Weber. Illusion of being able to steer to the sound of polls is misguided, especially if you ignore other factors necessary for stability. Convinced that show the muscles and exacerbate the tones at all costs index was strong, even at the cost of alienating potential allies (the clumsy handling of the case Boffo has deteriorated relations with the Catholic world is eloquent in this regard), the Premier has run in the long run the grave dug with their hands, so that even within his own party who is already talk of post-Berlusconi, although there are still the undisputed record holder of the votes. As in the step of the now famous speech, Berlusconi is therefore ready to play the game of survival (policy) not to die of starvation. But any called to the polls, a year and a half after the start of the current legislature and three and a half years from its natural end, lead to damage, and Italy with considerable economic. First, obviously, once again our schizophrenia, confirmed in an unreliable partner in the international scene, because, When he had to say, Bush (the former companion of the Premier) is very hard to maintain strong relations with a country that change the administration at every turn . But there's more.
Under the decree of one thousand extensions launched in 2005 by the then center-right majority, with the support of the opposition for once convinced, reimbursement election parties will still be made even if the early dissolution of, adding to the new reimbursement required by law and due for any future elections to come. Thus, for example, PDL and PD continue to receive lavish subsidies for the elections of 2006 (until 2011, natural end of defunct term), for those of 2008 (until 2013), which will be added reimbursement for new voting early in 2010. In other words, disguised as a triple public funding (as they had been repealed by a 1993 referendum, the law passed, find the loophole). A waste of public money absurd and foolish, especially in lean times, whereas between the other the huge operational costs that involves an election (for the 2006 total expenditure amounted to approximately € 393 million). How do right and that it would then cut the chatter, sacrifice, tears and blood?

Black Anddecker Funny Shirt

Crucifix In Calderone

Amedeo Maddaluno

Like everything now in our poor country, even a subject as profound as whether or not to expose the Christian crucifix in public places has not been a calm debate, after the known case of the European Court of Human Rights, but was dragged into the political manipulation of the butcher, a "cauldron" that swallows everything and all trite. It all ended in a colossal release of shoes between secularists and Catholics. I do not claim to bring a solution to a debate in which everyone has said everything ... I would timidly suggest a perspective a bit 'different problem. Personally I am very opposed to remove the Christian cross from the classroom "militarily", following a court ruling, especially when most of the Italians appear to the contrary. The symbols, especially if they have a huge historical weight, much better explain that to remove them. I feel to skin, in addition, the antidemocraticità the resolution, coming from taxation. Well it could be that the Italians to express themselves referendum to repeal ... but what law? The exposure of the Christian crucifix in public places and civic rights, so to say ... practice. The point is just that. What we think we Catholics who want to practice on our crucified exposed in public places? I never said "crucified", but "crucified Christ" is certainly, as we have said, a symbol - but one of many - of the history and culture of our country, but only in Catholic circles that the symbol ceases was a historical mark on a par with others, and becomes the basis of the most profound message of our faith, God made man and the man who sacrificed himself. The idea that there earthen to suggest is this, turning to my fellow Catholics. That symbol is a powerful sign of our relationship with God is not afraid debasing, so to say "inflation", by dint of being exhibited in schools and post offices, offices ... there is so pleased that the Christian cross is reduced to mere "practice", she was "a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles"?

Sample Church Talent Show Program?

Lies, Promises, Populism: Where will it end?

Alessio Mazzucco

that Mr Fini has distanced itself from the actions of Government can not be certain object of wonder. Sometimes it is embarrassing: an army that is large with trumpets and drums racket sull'inno of a release from an ( dicunt ) sort of nonexistent communist dictatorship in our country. From the biennium prod (certainly not a two-year red) has returned stronger than ever, Mr Berlusconi. And this time was in high gear. See you in over a year and a half after his inauguration that happens.

addition to the usual slogans and populist excesses, we are facing new scenarios and new policy initiatives in Italy that had not seen for a long time. Maybe too much. Topics touched on: the government, school and university fees. These, at least, on which I would think.

The star dawning of the PDL, Minister Renato Brunetta, has declared war on loafers. Remember? An investigation de L'Espresso accused a minister of the PA absentee in the European Parliament and difficulty in finding a university (despite its vaunted glories, among which the possibility of winning a Nobel nice). Forget the above questions and talk about politics. Brunetta's fight against the inefficiency of the PA has an epic, a kind of fight in the middle between being the champion of the good work and the minister vanagloriosus , good at talking, a little 'less nice to get. Let's be serious: what has gone on to talk about combating absenteeism? One year, maybe more. And the data have disproved some time ago (he himself admitted), showing a contrast in the index of absenteeism. But there are things that I most care about: facilities bureaucratic class action (disappearance between the meanders of a parliament slow and locked), assault on the bastions of power of the PA, ... "Revolution in Progress" is the name of his book, between systems of carrot and stick and maybe some populist ad will start up something. We will see the effects of the new DDL recently approved.

Education: you can finally streamline. Waiting for the universities and schools to bring into motorcycle yourself for an internal renewal, we would stay here a few decades. On the mergers, no right to useless. A round of applause to the courage of certain aspects of the reform. But the funds allocated to the universities that will use methods such criteria? And the search for the throw away like that, without any remorse? I mean to grow up and go back to being competitive in the global market is research and innovation. Cut off funds to the laboratories and university research centers has been so good idea? I think not. Or maybe cut the hours of teaching materials are essential for a general education or to have good tools in the future is a good thing? I am not convinced. For those wishing to access the data I cite two articles: by Il Sole 24 Ore , "Cold shower on education: 7.3 billion in financial less in three years" Claudio Tucci, from lavoce.info "School after yet another cold shower" Chiara Saraceno.

Tax. ICI abolished. Finally, bursts of applause, cheers! Long live what? At best, cheers populism. A recent article in Il Corriere de Sergio Rizzo (in red accounts of municipalities (without ICI) ", November 8) is enlightening: the larger municipalities have been suffocated. Thus says Chiamparino, Mayor of Turin and President of ANCI: "The fact is that ab-BIAM more fiscal autonomy. The ICI is prac-tically disappeared, the additional income tax is frozen. The problem is not the pat-to stability, but the fact that its missing-no resources. ". But abolish the ICI in waves as the Prodi government was planning to do just did not like? Now all applaud, but when the Communists finally cut off funds and initiatives, we will charge the populist Reform melt like snow in the sun. IRAP leave it alone: I beg you! At least we can continue to claim the SECOND best health in the world (with flaws and faults, of course, but still democratic and accessible). Maybe, if you really want to pay less tax at all, it is better than evasion with cross-checks, investigations on the accounts of large and medium size businesses, merchants, professionals, their property, etc. .. (As indeed did the Treasury 2006-2008) and less tax shields?

I have a question for the government: you promised the abolition of the provinces, do not talk about it anymore. Another question: Obama seeks to boost the economy given by incentives on the development of clean energy. We what? We will give incentives for clean energy? We will develop new areas for research to find, if not leading, at least in the position of countries so that they begin to grow after the crisis? What has been done to the relationship between environment and growth? It was in the program of the Government, your promise was busy, or not?

will not speak of justice because the discussion is still ongoing. Just one last thing I would say: You may propose and carry less elephants and give a more long-term drift to a country? Maybe less bridges over the Strait of Messina for better rail infrastructure? Less words and more action on fiscal federalism seriously? Maybe less fierce discussions on crucifixes and more political and intellectual debates and arguments on an increasingly global society and heterogeneous? Perhaps less talk about the existing social safety nets and more ideas for new structures of the labor market, relationship with unions and social and economic protection of precarious workers?

Personally I am very worried. I write this article, motivated by sincere doubts and questions. Whether you are supporters or not this government, this is the government of our country: they, therefore, we must address our concerns. Beyond the ' antiberlusconismo and this mysterious struggle between a people that prides itself of being the bearer of freedom and a group of citizens indelible mark as "comrades" and "communist" think seriously about our future. Honestly, I do not feel so rosy.

How To Build A Swing Bike

Crisis Centre-Left Social

Giorgio Piga

Maybe it's a trivial way that I decided to give the following article, but I can not find anything better to summarize in a simple and effective way that is, in fact, the crisis of the center. Crisis that reached its peak with Berlusconi's victory in the elections of 2008, as we all know, led to the exit from the Parliament of the fringes of the left and the extreme right. This has led to a substantial simplification of the political system and, finally, to a situation where small parties are not more needles fatal destiny of the balance of a coalition government (though, frankly, to pay the costs of this are almost always were the center-left governments rather than those of center-right, if we exclude the fall of Berlusconi in '94 by Bossi).

Right here is one of the first considerations to be done twice, the center-left alliance led by Romano Prodi has received a mandate to govern and after two years, with a punctuality that rivals a Swiss watch, has fallen. The first time thanks to the coherence and political foresight of Mr. cashmere, aka Fausto Bertinotti, who believes that Prodi would not have protected the interests of workers and because We are going to talk about meritocracy, this stranger was well thought of denying the confidence to Prime Minister along with all his followers and leave the country in the hands of Mr. B. The second time it has provided the intellectual folly of Senators Smith and Turigliatto, Prc always in the first instance and, secondly, we put the firm and is convinced that political ideal of Mastella, struck a year later on the way to Arcore, has decided that his real party was the PDL.

Not so much the first fall of Prodi, and the second, they pulled the center in a collapse that I believe will leave the signs for the next fifteen years, while the radical left (in the meantime continues to divide as it has not learned the lesson) was literally destroyed. Obviously, this has resulted in electoral drubbing in part stemmed from the creation of the PD and the presence of a leader more charismatic Prodi, namely Walter Veltroni, who is credited with having saved the implosion center; aware to stand for election with the usual, old, hackneyed alliances would mean a defeat of epochal dimensions, has broken with the extreme wing represented by the PDCI, PRC and the Greens with that, you know, the results obtained were in nothing short of terrifying. But here's another consideration: the total inability of the party to support his secretary, despite the enough already compromised. Since it seems that the saying "wolf loses hair but not vice" is absolutely true, the leaders of the Democratic Party continued to fight each other beautifully and attack their leader who, predictably, has not been able to keep reins of the situation and had to leave after the first secretary of the regional election defeats.

Right now, the Democratic Party lacks the strength and cohesion that are able to counteract the power of media, even before political dell'Egoarca. And this looks set to persist, at least until it will remain within the "usual suspects" which, although not to give up their position privilege, they seem likely to blow it to hell without asking too many questions about the consequences of their actions. Until then, although the influx of the primary results are reassuring and do more than hope for a renewed confidence of the people, who is undecided whether to vote center-right or center will be very reluctant to restore confidence to the latter, given the precedents.

More than ever the Democratic Party requires that long-awaited renovation, the only one who is able to create a strong opposition and strong sense of identity, even in the pluralism of ideas and opinions, should work, in my view, a sort of Aufhebung, as Hegel said, that allows the crisis and disputes, but in store at the same time, what is the internal dialogue flowing into a "synthesis", again to quote Hegel, provided, of course, resulting in the emergence of concrete targets and not the usual struggles intestine, but not enough. The PD will also resume the old habit that characterized the center o. at least, the PCI: go house to house to present their political views, finding that contact with people who are missing far too long, one wonders why the League, a harbinger of petty ideological and populist, and do not get such a broad consensus we understand that this is due to the fact that municipal and regional political party, so if we want to define it, they go to seek dialogue with ordinary people, they go to hear directly the problems at their root, are promising (although keeping is another story). What the opposition should pursue is just that, because it seems to have lost sight of the fundamental story which was playing at the time of the class struggle, the history that has its foundation on the closeness to the real problems of the people, the most immediate and concrete .

However, we should say, the Democratic Party is at present the strongest left-wing party in Europe, having a constituency of 30%, while in the rest of the sides as the German coming soon to 23%, moreover, are against Berlusconi also means being against a media system that is unparalleled in other countries, it appears that public opinion in a pounding incessant assuefacendola and convince them that, ultimately, the fact that Chairman of the Board has gone to bed with the escort is just useless chatter and uninteresting, if not false and utterly implausible. Defeating such a system is difficult and complex, particularly because of the difficulty of the party and also because of what I would call the center-dominant trait: the ability to divide and fight in the crucial moments of history (the splitting of Livorno is an obvious example ).

Nevertheless, I hope strongly that it is capable of understanding that, at present, be strong and cohesive means a lot, as there is the fate of an entire country, still in the hands of Mr. B.

What Does Cervix Feel Like

Filip Stefanovic

is said that to really admire the mountain is not the secret to gain the top, but away from it to frame the entire giant: a 'image that lends itself well to the story, where the shiny objects and ability to follow and unravel its many rows are always slower to steal the material itself.

So we find ourselves today, November 9, 2009, to look with admiration and astonishment to this day twenty years ago, when one night was enough to cancel that Iron Curtain, named for the first time the words of Winston Churchill in 1946 [*]. But what was, what he really represented that '89 could perhaps just as its counterpart of two centuries earlier, that of the French Revolution, to disrupt both the European and then global structures? Why the curious fact is that the farther we get from our mountain, the more it seems that something does not come back, and had to share the impressions we now seem if not erroneous, at least partially. The reunification of Germany is This was really an approximation, or perhaps it is better to speak of Anschluss, the annexation by Germany's defeat winning over his sister? The images that often these days we see on our screens, that night in celebration of every bank in Berlin and laugh and hug each other, maybe they do not pair with the less famous of the spring of 1991, where throngs of Germans of the same ' East jubilant for the future unification of the previous six months, protesters furious hours? The workers, because the free market had produced 3 million unemployed, given the inability of the competitive goods produced in the GDR, the tenants, because the privatization of the houses had resulted in rents astronomical for their economies, the housewives, as prices were liberalized weighed in in a more than exponential ... The social devastation following the fall of the GDR was not only sudden, but almost complete. Ed'alto Free education level, job security, certain retirement, housing, items were taken for granted, and although the relatively low wage levels and household wealth is absolutely inaccessible to western standards, it was not certain that would never go hungry. It is very difficult to draw a monochrome picture of East German reality, and most times you fall into stereotypical traps, the Trabant to the Stasi. And what is that Trabant Stasi may be representative and characteristic of socialism, it is equally wrong to forget that they lived in East Germany 17 million people, often more than satisfactory. In fact, we must pay great attention to judge the subjective and the objective reality in our analysis because the error that you make most often, is to translate the sentence of a one-party regime and illiberal lifestyle of those who grew up in that regime and lived. The most obvious evidence of this misunderstanding has blossomed over the past decade, with the advent of so-called Ostalgie, a term that identifies the nostalgia for all what was in the East, and the life behind the Wall. Alienation and a sense of bewilderment in many, especially among older people, have lived since 1989 has suffered a further blow to the inability of West Germans (and more generally throughout the West ) to separate the condemnation of a system from that of a people, and the life of this people: all that was revealed to the West is right, everything that came from East wrong, so who had lived on one side only had teach, who was on the other hand could only, like the prodigal son, redeem, convert, and as soon as the well-being, happy child of capitalism.

If we, however, the case that capitalism enters crisis? When social inequality grows over time, when the poor are getting poorer and their own condition misconduct, as well as the sentence they have no chance in life? When this happens - and is happening - it is normal that many people will look behind, to reconsider their past, when differences between classes were very mild, when engineers and workers went on holiday together and the profession was not an obstacle to social even the money, the sense of community and mutual assistance functions more pronounced. DDR was, after all, the pride of this experiment, social, economic and political that goes under the name of real socialism, the most successful example of an alternative system to the U.S., without a single dollar of the Marshall Plan had already failed within the first 60 to be among the ten most industrialized countries in the world while losing towards the end of the decade in question, the pace, especially as regards the production of consumer goods. taking refuge in memories, are incredibly less paradoxical, or if only minor, then the inconsistencies, the fact that to get a car, the only one available, spend an average of 15 years, you could not even choose the color, what ARRIVED. Today, however, the manufacturers are tens, hundreds models, the various combinations thousands. But if you remain unemployed, what reduces the choice? Once the show was not only forbidden, but is in danger of being left with a police personnel file only for telling a joke. Today there is freedom of expression, but what good is protest if nothing changes? Do not get me wrong, this is not a nostalgic speech, nor is it feasible or desirable sol'anche return to such a system. But it is honest to admit that the problems experienced by East Germans were not happy as the snow melted in the sun, the wall collapsed that obscured the rays, but even after years have gangrene, and in some twenty years November 9 from that still feel alien, a foreign state that is not theirs. The high levels of unemployment, economic stagnation, emigration much more pronounced than in the rest of the country, whole ghost town abandoned by young people and turned into dorms for the elderly, are the most obvious sign that something has gone wrong, and that the regret of a recent past are probably not the result of romantic nostalgia of the real needs remain unfulfilled.

What has resulted, then, 1989? The shock which produced up to where they penetrate? Were bedded at all? We have only to look at the territory of the former Yugoslavia to give a negative answer. The smiles, the sighs of relief, tears of joy and hugs of that fateful night preceding two years less than other images of battered houses, fire, columns of refugees, tortured bodies, swollen city razed to the ground (Vukovar), other beleaguered ( Sarajevo), as we have not seen on European soil since the Second World War. Today, therefore, when we think back to that day twenty years ago, as well as celebrate the end of the nightmare of the Cold War, we keep in mind that not all of his knots were loose, not all questions were born between those concrete blocks broken pickaxe to have been answered, and yet between the answers given, not all proved to be accurate. It is from this premise that must flow awareness that there is still much to do because Europe is a free and fair, and that not only have a few decades, but perhaps not enough to see many first made the idea of common home who in 1989 had seemed for a moment, a mirage so close.

Gas After Drinking Soda

Ershad Ali, a farmer, the small village of Tikuria, in ' upazila (the basic level Bangladesh Public Administration) of Haluaghat in northern Bangladesh. As 70% of his countrymen, is not equipped with electricity, forced to meet its energy needs by kerosene lamps and stoves, so as hazardous pollutants. Like many in his village, however, Mr. Ali has a great resource: a mini-herd of six cows on pasture.

So it is sufficient to Grameen Shakti (literally "Energy Village") to ensure that as many Bangladeshi Ershad a loan of 30,000 taka (just over € 290, repayable at an annual interest rate of 5.8%) to build a biogas plant, technically biodigester said: you dig a tank of variable width and depth, supported by a lattice structure made of wood, from which a radial plastic pipe, and finally, cover everything with a tarp. The pit is then filled on a regular basis with a mixture of manure and water.

Moha MMED Delawar Hossain, who worked for Grameen Shakti, said: "When we design a new facility, we take into account both the available resources that the size of the household: for example a family of five or six individuals enough a cavity of 1.2 cubic meters if the individuals are from 8 to 10 opt for a hole of 1.4 cubic meters ". "Although at first the system only includes the use of cattle manure, we later discovered that the addition of poultry manure increased the yield of the plants. So the owner receives not only enough gas to cook three times a day, but manages to earn 2,500 taka by selling the amount of gas in excess to their communities, "says also connects Fazley Rabbi.

Grameen Shakti, which has already astonished the world with his campaign to install solar cream he low-cost (to date more than 100,000 plants across the country), is part of the family Grameen company, which builds on the revolutionary success of the system of micro-credit (thanks to the vision of Muhammad Yunus), has now expanded into 25 different areas, which include, in addition to energy, including education and health. Moreover, the process implemented by the energy company Bengali could be accelerated by a grant coming from the World Bank, which has pledged $ 9 for every reduction of one tonne of CO2 emissions. This should help non-profit society to become economically self-sufficient, partly due to a return to that already obtained from the sale of its solar panel systems, in which the market is still the undisputed leader.

are currently present in Bangladesh, more than 30,000 biodigester plants, but the horizon is the most optimistic lot far, estimated at 4 million potential installations around the country. Tikuria is among the best performing villages in this sense, with no less than 50 biogas plants, so that the largest funder of environmental projects, the ' Infra-structure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) recently decorated the plate "Biogas Village , in accordance with their specific standards. Now 40% of the population in the village receives energy through the system, reducing damage to the eyes and respiratory tract from the combustion of kerosene and at the same time reducing the risk of contracting infectious diseases.

"It is the dream of all the alchemists" says the student of economics and Bengali bloggers Benjamin "they always try to turn lead into gold, while showing some ignorance of monetary policy (that is, a world of gold is only a world in which the value of that disappears)! Certainly that would be very seduced by the idea of transforming something common and useless a valuable resource like energy. "

The system introduced by Grameen Shakti is also very valuable from a social perspective, since it is based, such as micro-credit, on the cooperation of small to medium groups of families, that to overcome the limit costs decide to engage the private financial resources for a common purpose and benefit, creating what would venture to establish a social network energy. The maintenance service is also composed entirely of female staff trained: this avoids the stalemate on the ground that the local culture does not allow women (who usually are the only present for intervention) to interact directly with the technicians males, except in the presence of her husband.

short, Grameen Shakti is to be a small revolution, which will help the poor to be a bit 'less and at the same time make the world a less polluted. Thus it is important to the company the recognition of Yunus's recent ceremony Ashden Awards (held in London in summer 2008) for the "outstanding result" .

Energy Crisis and Beyond: They are really too big to fail? Conrad Schumann

Elementi Quantitativi
Vincenzo Poll
"Pestis eram Vivus, moriens your terminal was" Martin Luther

Following the publication by the European Commission forecasts for the next two years, it appears now that the economy will move towards a slight recovery after the crisis in which she had entered in September 2008. Now that the danger of a long depression seems to have gone will be the question on those elements that have caused the financial crisis in a way that, as Obama said in his speech about reform the regulation of finance, which back "the days of irresponsible and uncontrolled excesses that have been the cause of the crisis" (1).

Many will remember the failure of Lehman Brother , the investment bank founded in 1850 and now known as the most illustrious victim in the financial world. The failure of this institution has brought down the public's attention on the theme: "The banks are too big?" And of course the policy of "too big to fail".

Just this policy would be the basis for many of the problems underlying the crisis in that it created and still perpetuates one of the most major cases in the history of what economists call moral hazard. The objective of a series of articles would be to analyze the consequences of the size of banks and some possible policy proposals to solve this problem. But first we must understand if they are really great.

I'm really so great?
When it comes to this subject is not often faced with the quantitative definition of the problem. In fact, the problem arises to understand what it means to be big in the world of finance and economics in general.

An easy comparison can be made between the current assets of some banks and the GDP of their home countries.

As you can see in some countries in fact the assets of individual financial institutions are even higher than the GDP of the state itself. Stands out in particular RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) who is now 70% owned by the government, which already plans to write a scissor kick to the budget of this colossus. It seems strange to the relatively low number of notorious American banks like GS and Bank of America. A case must be made a few clarifications: First, the GDP of the United States is vastly greater than that of all other states considered (it is even, alone, about one-fifth of global GDP); Second, even if relatively some of these smaller institutions play a major role in certain international markets (their failure would have a huge burden because of the so-called systemic risk, which will be discussed in another article), and thirdly is not considered that many activities of U.S. banks are, or were out budget and make up what Mauro Guerra called "Shadow Banking" (3). Measurements (to come very rough) can therefore be misleading. The table has more than a few flaws such as not considering the results after the acquisition (I have an aggregate budget of Merrill Lynch to that of BOA, I do not want to ...) and featuring a large no. Switzerland is not present because the relationship is simply too big ...! Only UBS in 2008 for assets held more than three and a half times, a relationship that has fallen to just under three times in 2009.

Once saw this we might ask: but governments are able to cope with the failure of institutions, at least protecting the creditors? The thing seems pretty complicated ...
using the past as a proxy for banks' losses on those who are not shareholders and comparing these values with the General Government Revenue we obtain the following result (which is not taken into account with UBS in Switzerland because the relationship and 12).

As you can see, while using all their income, governments could never individually cover losses on the liabilities of banks, which would cause serious damage to the financial system. Of course this is a case practically only theoretical because it is absolutely inconceivable that all the assets of a bank has zero value of the blue, and perhaps most telling is a comparison with certain types of activities. However, it should take into strong consideration the estimate of potential losses of a bank is extremely difficult to assess and that even today the instrument used (VAR or Value At Risk) has proved quite ineffective (3). Moreover, the graph we can suggest the scale of which would be necessary to have to deal with a small default on debt. For example, If Banco Santander would not be able to repay 10% of its debts, the government should commit around 20% of his income if he decided to cover the loss. A pretty impressive figure.

stability at risk
The greatness of any of these banks and makes it impossible to treat them like many other institutions of the financial system. The risk that they would cause to the economic stability of those countries in which they operate would be enormous in case of a normal bankruptcy proceedings. Lord Turner, chairman of the Authority for the Financial Regulator, has recently argued that "a part of the financial sector is useless from a societal perspective and is destabilize the British economy "(4). The harmful effect that such institutions could have on the "political and economic life of the country" had already been pointed out almost a century earlier by the jurist Louis Brandeis to the principle of the "curse of bigness" (5). Should not be overlooked, in addition to purely quantitative effects, even the psychological aspects of the failure of these institutions. The panic that follows the failure of a giant can lead to messy leaks from the market with devastating effects on both the quotations on the budgets of other institutions that are more healthy.
is therefore natural to ask what are the problems that the presence of these institutions can be created in the system Financial but I think it's worth to dedicate a separate article.

Uninterruptible Power Supply Rental Jersey City

Filip Stefanovic

There are some snapshots that have marked the world, at one step by condensing entire chapters of recent history, who does not remember the militia fell in Spain, the photographs of Capa's D-Day, or the Americans hoisting the flag atop Mount Suribachi?

image more than any other is associated with the Cold War is certainly that of Conrad Schumann.

Schumann, born March 28, 1942, was the first and perhaps most famous fugitive of the German Democratic Republic was born in today's Saxony, enlisted in Bereitschaftspolizei, SWAT teams and riot police guarded the construction of the Berlin Wall. It was August 1961, and under the incredulous eyes of the soldiers Berliners NVA (Nationale Volksarmee, Army Nazionalpopolare) planted the first stakes and barbed wire stretched between the tears of those you could see forever torn from their loved ones, relatives, friends ...

Perhaps it was not only the desire for freedom, a peaceful and normal life out of the yoke of communist dictatorship, perhaps it was the courage of unconsciousness, of those 19 years hidden under his uniform and helmet fell eyes, to give young Conrad the courage to take the running and jumping, that hot August 15, 1961. The photographer Peter Leibing had the foresight and luck able to capture the miracle, the boots crushing barbed wire, rifle on shoulder, arms outstretched to soar, his face tense, holding their breath, as if to see how it turns out, if breathing or if it will resume Instead hit the back by his companions.

is a picture full of meaning not only because it paints the historical reality of an era, the inner drama of the Cold War symbol of the city and its citizens, but because it goes beyond the political moment, conveying a universal message and eternal: the quest of freedom, the fight against all forms of limitation of human life, unique and precious, that too many times, in too many parts of the world was crushed by the will and the strength of a few. It is a photograph that does not triumph over the East and West, but only a man and his will to choose, to their own lives and their future, without hindrance or stakes imposed by a power-down.

The flight was successful, but you can not talk about a happy ending: in exile from home, Conrad lived all his life in Bavaria, not far from their family and fortune, working at Audi in Ingolstadt. Throughout his life he received letters from family members in which they begged him to come back to them, finding out only after the collapse of the GDR have been always written by the laying of the Stasi. Fall of the wall is returned to talk about Conrad and his story, and he admitted what he had to suffer for his choice, he was also an alcoholic for ten years: "Only since November 9, 1989 [fall of the Wall, ed], I felt truly free"

In 1990 he was finally able to return to visit in Saxony, sadly discover that many had never forgiven his action, both among the friends of the family, and thirty years later not addressed even the word.

put an end to their sufferings June 20, 1998, with a noose around his neck in the orchard behind the house, leaving no message. " I'm still proud of what I did, there was no chance even if I ran a great danger and I cut each deck with my past: I lost my family, friends, work, everything, "he once said . But not always be sure you have made the right choice is enough to drive away the ghosts of the past.

And after all, what changes? Conrad Schumann has achieved immortality long ago, at age 19, one meter above the ground, over the barbed wire: it has taken off like a hawk, and is no longer landed.
